Golden Mount Paggaio with its height reaching 1.956m is well known from the mythological years. Due to its outstanding natural environment and primeval features boasts a great emotional impact on visitors.
Apart from its strategic location, Mount Paggaio was famous for the gold and silver. As a result it was a pole of attraction and a cause for conflict for various countries during ancient times. It is said that the ancient Macedonians used gold from Mount Paggaio and created the golden shrine of King Philippos II, which was later found in Vergina.
Apart from its gold features, Paggaio is associated with a treasure of myths, the two important aspects of the ancient world, the cult of Dionysus and the Orphism.
Mount Paggaio combines an amazing variety of flora such as holm oaks, cyclamen, lilies, firs, chestnuts, beech and oak trees, wild almond trees, plums and a variety of mushrooms. There is also a variety of animals such as wolves, wild boars, golden eagles, osprey birds and horned owls. At lower altitudes there are foxes, badgers and storks.
CAVE OF ALISTRATI
Alistrati cave is one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Europe. A cave that causes feelings of admiration due to its incomparable allure. Its explored surface reaches 25.000 sq.m, almost plane level, with stable temperature and humidity. It features excellent natural ventilation and provides perfect safety standards. The overall length of the routes is 3km.
Apart from the cave, visitors can enjoy a train trip in the canyon of the river Aggitis and admire the exceptional beauty of the river, the cave paintings but also the rich flora and fauna of the area.
CANYON OF RIVER AGGITIS
Near the Alistrati cave lies the canyon of river Aggitis. Its overall length is 15 km. A stunning view which makes you to admire the magnificence of nature. Suitable for canoeing, rafting, mountain biking, hiking and eco-tour.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE AND MUSEUM OF PHILIPPI
The most important archaeological site of eastern Macedonia, with characteristic monuments of the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and early Christian periods. The Philippi Festival takes place every summer on the site of the ancient theatre of Philippi and it hosts various plays and musical performances.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE AND MUSEUM OF AMPHIPOLIS
Amphipolis used to be the center of the ancient world and one of the most important dormitories of the Macedonian Hellenism. The symbolical monument of the city is the Amphipolis Lion, of 5.30 m height, which has been preserved and restored. A unique and rich collection of finds is exposed in the Amphipolis museum. The museum is continually expanding its collection with new archaeological finds.
Just 1 km away from Amphipolis an enormous ancient Macedonian tomb has been recently discovered with a wall surrounding 500 m in circumference. Up to now indications show that something of a great importance is hidden in the tomb.

The first form of writing throughout human history is the cave paintings. In the wider Paggaio region there are prehistoric cave paintings reflecting the life of prehistoric inhabitants of the area. Besides animals, arrows, riders, sun, etc., the zodiac signs and the advanced space vehicle are obvious indications that the Thracian tribes of Mount Paggaio had memories of a superior and advanced civilization.

Visitors have the opportunity to see the most popular public figures from Greece and abroad immortalized in wax, such as K. Karamanlis, M.Merkouri, A.Jolie, etc. Guests can easily stand next to (and pose for photos with) the figures and take information about the unique art of wax figure making.
